Red Devils Fall to 0-2 Defeat against Stuttgart

Despite a strong and passionate display, the Red Devils fell to a 0-2 defeat against VfB Stuttgart as second-half goals from Cacau and Boulahrouz sealed the Swabian’s win. Kurz’s men dominated possession for large parts of the game and created several scoring opportunities but were left empty-handed as they failed to convert their chances.

Marco Kurz made one change to the side that fell to an unlucky defeat last time out, naming Sukata-Pasu for Walch. Amedick and Rodnei lined up in central defense, with Dick and Jessen at full-back, and Trapp in goal. Kirch and Petsos anchored midfield, with Sukuta-Pasu and Tiffert on the flanks, and Shechter alongside Kouemaha up front.

Once referee Perl whistled play underway after a ten-minute delay, the Red Devils created the first opening on 30 seconds, with Dick sending a long cross to Shechter in the box, but Ulreich was on hand to deny the Israeli’s effort.

The visitors had their first chance from a set-piece situation on nine minutes, but Okazaki’s attempt flew over the bar. Determined to add the second home win to their tally, ‘Lautern responded. Kirch and Jessen played a neat give-and-go before Kirch fed Tiffert on the right wing, but the Red Devils’ captain hesitated too long and failed to burry the ball in the net with only Ulreich to beat.

‘Lautern upped the heat and Sukuta-Pasu almost opened the scoring from a clear-cut Kirch cross, but the winger dragged his shot narrowly wide of the left post. The Red Devils pressed hard for an opening goal and had the bulk of the possession in the early stages. A Petsos long shot forced a smart save from Ulreich before the Red Devils had the next chance after a Tiffert free-kick.

The Red Devils’ defense stood firm and they created chances from open play. Dick swung a neat cross over for Shechter in front of goal but saw his team-mate scoop a shot over the bar just before half-time.

Stuttgart had the first chance after the restart from a corner kick, but Shechter was on hand to clear the situation. At the other end, Tiffert fired a shot on the turn just wide. The visitors took the lead when Hajnal fed Boulahrouz on the right wing, with the Dutch defender crossing for Cacau who slot home from close range to put the visitors in the lead with 52 minutes on the clock.

Kurz reacted and brought on Fortounis for Petsos, with Tiffert moving to central midfield and Sukuta-Pasu taking over on the left wing. Shechter almost scored the equalizer from a neat Dick cross, but Ulreich performed heroics to save the Israeli’s attempt.

Stuttgart doubled its lead when Harnik fed Boulahrouz in the box, with the Dutch international firing his shot past Trapp in the home goal on 69 minutes.

Itay Shechter really should have pulled one back, but the Israeli international dragged his shot over the bar with the shot-stopper already beaten. The home side had the next chance after a Tiffert free-kick, but Fortounis fired his low shot narrowly wide of the left post.

The Red Devils started strongly and dominated possession in the first half. They created several chances but failed to score as they appeared lacking in confidence in and around the box and were punished for their wastefulness as Stuttgart struck twice to defeat Kurz’s men 2-0.
