Mandjeck on his Way to South Africa

While 1. FC Kaiserslautern met Rot-Weiss Ahlen in a friendly game on Saturday, November 14, 2009, several FCK professionals were away on international duty with their respective national teams. Georges Mandjeck and the Cameroonian national team had tremendous reason to cheer as they booked an automatic place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa.

The “Untamable Lions” defeated Morocco 2-0 (1-0) in their last qualifying fixture in Gabun on Saturday. Mandjeck watched the game from the bench. It is Cameroon’s sixth qualification for a FIFA World Cup tournament.

Dario Damjanovic and Bosnia-Herzegovina can still make it to South Africa. On Saturday, Bosnia-Herzegovina lost 0-1 (0-1) against Portugal. Nevertheless, Damjanovic and his team-mates can still book their place at the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa on Wednesday, November 18, 2009 when they will face Portugal in their home play-off game. Damjanovic did not enter the field of play in Lisbon.

Erik Jendrisek and Slovakia, who had already wrapped up their first ever qualification for a World Cup since independence, met the U.S. Men’s National Team in a friendly on Saturday. Slovakia defeated the U.S. 1-0 (1-0). Jendrisek played the full 90 minutes.

Elsewhere, the European Under-21 national teams are fighting for vital 2011 European U-21 Championship qualifying points. Daniel Pavlovic and the Switzerland U-21 national team defeated Turkey 3-1 (2-0). Pavlovic was substituted in the 60th minute. Switzerland is at the top of Group 2, four points ahead of Turkey.
