International Roundup - Trapp and Fortounis Win
Kevin Trapp and Konstantinos Fortounis celebrated wins with their respective Under-21 national teams. While the German Under-21 squad wrapped up a 7-0 runaway win over San Marino, Fortounis converted a free kick in Greece’s 2-0 victory over Cyprus. Thanos Petsos and the Greek senior national team snatched a 1-0 win over Itay Shechter and the Israeli national team.

Sotorios Ninis scored a 60th-minute winner to give Group F leader Greece a 1-0 victory over Israel in a Euro 2012 qualifier on Friday, September 2. Israel sits third in Group F, three points adrift of second-placed Croatia. Since Croatia has one game in hand over Israel, Shechter’s chances to book a berth at the 2012 European Championships are very low.
While FCK striker Shechter started in Tel Aviv and was replaced after 55 minutes, Thanos Petsos watched the game from the substitutes’ bench. Greece will now face Lithuania on Tuesday, September 6. Israel will go head-to-head with Croatia on Tuesday evening.
FCK shot-stopper Kevin Trapp kept a clean sheet as the German Under-21 national team wrapped up a 7-0 runaway win over San Marino in Paderborn on Thursday. Pierre-Michel Lasogga (2), Lewis Holtby, Daniel Ginczek, Maximilian Beister, Alexander Esswein and Peniel Mlapa scored the goals that sealed the win. Rainer Adrion’s team and Group 1 leader Germany will meet Belarus in their next Under-21 European Championship qualifying game on Tuesday, September 6.
The Greek Under-21 national team sits fifth in Group 1. Konstantinos Fortounis and his team-mates snatched a 2-0 win over Cyprus. The FCK player put his team in front as he converted a free kick before a goal from Apostolos Vellios sealed the 2-0 win.
