Red Devils on National Team Duty
Six FCK players have been called up to represent their respective national teams in international games at the beginning of October 2011.
FCK midfielder Thanos Petsos has been called up to the Greek senior national team for the European Championship qualifying games against Croatia and Georgia. Petsos and his fellow countrymen take on Croatia in Piraeus on Friday, October 7, before they meet Georgia in Tiflis four days later, on Tuesday, October 11, 2011.
FCK attacking midfielder Konstantinos Fortounis received a call-up to the Greek Under-21 side for the games against San Marino and Belarus. The 18-year-old will be looking to earn his 12th cap for his country’s Under-21 national team in the game against San Marino in Athens on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Five days later, on Tuesday, October 11, Fortounis and his team-mates meet Belarus.
Also the Israeli midfielder Gil Vermouth has been called up to represent his home country in Israel’s international game against Malta on Tuesday, October 11, 2011. FCK forward Itay Shechter will most probably stay at the Betzenberg where he will attend a special training program.
FCK shot-stopper Kevin Trapp will pull on national colors as well as the Germany Under-21 squad takes on Bosnia Herzegovina in a European Championship qualifying game in Ingolstadt on Thursday, October 6, 2011. Trapp and his team-mates meet San Marino in Serravalle four days later, on October 10.
FCK youngsters Steven Zellner and Dominique Heintz have also been called up to represent their home country at different age levels. Zellner has received a call-up to the German Under-20 squad for the friendly games against Italy on October 5 and Switzerland on October 9, 2011. Dominique Heintz will be away from the Betzenberg from October 2 through October 12. The youngster travels to Northern Ireland where Horst Hrubesch’s Germany Under-19 squad meets Montenegro, Belarus and Northern Ireland in European Championship qualifying games.
All FCK players are expected to return to Kaiserslautern on Wednesday, October 12 or Thursday October 13, 2011. The Red Devils face FC Schalke 04 in Gelsenkirchen on Saturday, October 15, 2011 (kick-off 6:30 p.m.).
