"The game against Paraguay is a welcome opportunity for us ahead of the World Cup in Brazil," said Germany coach Joachim Loew.
"It gives us a chance to adjust to and familiarize ourselves with the typical South American style of play, which is characterized by rapid, direct movement and players with outstanding technical skills."
The friendly will be held at the Fritz Walter Stadium in Kaiserslautern on August 14. The renowned Betzenberg most recently hosted the German national team in its 4-0 win over Kazakhstan in a 2012 European Cup qualifying match on March 26, 2012.
"Kaiserslautern is a very special venue, which is known for its tradition and passion and the great atmosphere in the ground. We look forward to the encounter with Paraguay at the Bertzenberg,” Helmut Sandrock, General Secretary of the German Soccer Association (DFB), stated.
Also FCK CEO Stefan Kuntz is pleased to welcome the German and Paraguayan national teams to the Betzenberg: "We are always happy to play host to the German national team and we will be great hosts with a superb crowd.”
This will only be the second time for the two sides to meet. Germany previously played Paraguay at the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea, where Oliver Neuville scored for a 1-0 win.
Paraguay players Nelson Valdez, Lucas Barrios and Roque Santa Cruz previously played in the Bundesliga.
Germany will play two World Cup qualifiers against Kazakhstan in March (Astana, March 22 and Nuremberg, March 26). Loew and his men will then take on Austria in Munich on September 6, before they will travel to face Faroe Islands on September 10. In October 2013, Germany will meet Ireland (Cologne, October 11) and Sweden (October 15) in its last two 2014 World Cup qualifiers.
Tickets will go on-sale to the public in April 2013. To be the first to know when tickets will go on sale, fans may register for the email ticket alert service at www.dfb.de.
