Alexander Baumjohann Becomes a Red Devil
Midfielder Alexander Baumjohann joins 1. FC Kaiserslautern from FC Schalke 04. The 25-year-old put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Red Devils, with an option to extend for a further two years. The parties agreed to keep the terms of the deal confidential.
The Datteln-born player celebrated his Bundesliga debut on February 25, 2006, a few days after his 19th birthday, in an encounter between FC Schalke 04 and Nuremberg (2-0). Baumjohann has made a total of 64 Bundesliga appearances (three goals) and one appearance in Bundesliga 2. He has made a further four appearances in the Champions League and six in the Europa League. Baumjohann has earned two caps for the Germany Under-21 national team.
FCK head coach Franco Foda: “I’ve known him for a long time and wanted to sign him when I was in charge at Sturm Graz. I am very happy to have the chance to work with him after a several-year delay.”
Alexander Baumjohann: “I talked to Franco Foda ten days ago and he convinced me to switch to FCK. I’ve have never thought about Bundesliga 2 before, and I am absolutely sure FCK will be back in Bundesliga 1 next season!”
